顺应论视角下的散文英译研究

内容摘要

严格地说,散文是与诗歌、小说、戏剧并起并坐的文学体裁,文字一般都比较短小精炼。中国是一个散文传统非常深厚的国度,特别是五四以来,散文更是取得了突飞猛进的发展,涌现出大批优秀的散文作家。然而,令人遗憾的是,中国文学译成外文后向国外介绍的大多数是诗歌、小说、戏剧,唯独散文被冷落了;另外,有关散文英译的研究也不多见。有鉴于此,本文运用顺应论分析散文英译,以期为散文英译的研究提供一个新的视角。顺应论由比利时语言学家杰夫·维索尔伦提出,该理论指出语言使用的过程便是语言选择的过程,语言的三个特点,即变异性、商讨性和顺应性确保了语言使用者能够在使用语言的过程中作出种种恰当的选择,其中,顺应性是核心,它包括语境关系的顺应、语言结构的顺应、顺应的动态性和顺应过程的意识程度。顺应论为散文英译研究带来了诸多启示,首先,散文英译的过程便是译者不断作出语言选择的过程;其次,根据顺应论的观点,译者需要在言内因素和言外因素方面分别作出顺应;再次,从宏观上看,顺应论对散文英译的一些翻译现象也有一定的解释作用,比如重译的原因和必要性。在顺应论的指导下,为使论证更具说服力,本文对张培基译注的《英译中国现代散文选》(三辑)作了定性分析。张培基教授动态灵活地采用各种极富针对性的翻译方法在言内因素方面(语音、词汇、句子、篇章和文体)和言外因素方面(情感世界、社交世界、物理世界)都实现了顺应,忠实通顺地表达了原文的内容和思想,使译文易于译文读者接受,顺应并满足了译文读者的阅读期待。本文作者对这些翻译方法进行了概括和总结,试图为散文英译实践提供借鉴。希望本文对散文英译的理论和实践具有一定的参考价值。
