内容摘要

戏剧是一门内涵丰富的综合性艺术,它具有独特的二重性特征：可读性和可表演性,既可以作为文学作品来欣赏,又是舞台演出的蓝本。戏剧的二元特征使译者面临一个两难的困境：是保证其可表演性,还是突出戏剧的文学性?此外,戏剧的这种二元性使得评价其翻译的标准难以确定。目的论认为翻译目的是决定翻译行为的首要因素,整个翻译活动受翻译目的的制约。翻译目的决定译者将采取的翻译策略及方法,以创造出功能上充分的目的文本。目的论为解决戏剧翻译问题提供了崭新的视角。它提出“翻译纲要”以说明何种类型的译文为所需,并以“充分性”代替“对等”作为戏剧译文的评价标准,为合理评价译文带来有益的启示。本文以目的论为基础,认真研究了魏莉莎女士的《凤还巢》英文译本,探讨了戏剧翻译的特点以及目的论对戏剧翻译的可行性和适用性。作者通过分析翻译目的、翻译纲要以及译文中所采用的翻译策略与方法后得出结论：译者通过巧妙运用恰当且有针对性的翻译策略与方法,充分满足了四个要素,即易懂性、上口性、个性化和美学功能,从而最终实现了翻译目的,取得了成功的翻译。
