英汉学习词典的例证研究

内容摘要

例证在词典中发挥着不可取代的作用。学习词典的一个重要特征就是提供丰富的例证,用以帮助使用者加强对词汇的语义信息、语法信息、语体信息和语用信息的理解。学习词典是为了满足外国的英语学习者的需要而编纂的,它也被称作单语学习词典。为了满足将英语作为外语学习的学习者的需要,单语学习词典被翻译成了双解词典。而对于中国的英语学习者来说,除了这两种词典之外,还有中国的词典学家专门为了中国的英语学习者编纂的英汉学习词典。例证对于学习词典重要性毋庸置疑。本文选择了英汉学习词典中的例证作为研究对象,因为英汉学习词典是专门为中国的英语学习者编纂的,尽管仍有不足,依然可以预见其未来在中国英语学习中的重要作用,然而,研究者们对这一点缺乏足够的重视。因此,本文对英汉学习词典中的例证进行了研究,旨在弄清楚英汉学习词典中例证的特征,通过实证研究发现其不足,然后提出改进的建议。三本英汉学习词典被选作研究对象,它们分别是,《新英汉词典》第四版,《新时代英汉大词典》第四版和《外研社现代英汉词典》第三版。这三本词典的出版时间非常接近,因此它们被选作研究对象。受限于时间和工具,本文选择了四个词目词进行研究。这四个词分别代表了一种词类,即,“at”代表介词,“big”代表形容词,“dog”代表名词,"play"代表动词。而且,由于本文要进行双解学习词典和英汉学习词典的比较研究,特选择了《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第七版。通过对四个词目词的例证的数据分析和具体分析,研究发现英汉学习词典中的例证配置可以通过解决如下问题得到改进。问题如下：首先,例证来源不明确；其次,例证翻译存在不足；再次,例证配置缺乏统一标准；第四,语法信息、语用信息、语体信息和文化信息不足；最后,例证配置缺乏理论指导。为了解决这些问题,从而改进例证配置,本文给出了一些建议。
