双重谓语的认知研究

内容摘要

随着认知科学的蓬勃发展，认知语言学逐渐成为语言学领域的一个新的亮点，为语言研究提供了新的视角和思路。基于认知语言学中的图形／背景理论，本文对英语中颇有争议的双重谓语进行了分析探究。以往对双重谓语的研究主要是从语法角度展开的，且存在着较大的分歧，其争论的焦点在于DP₂（双重谓语的第二成份）的句子成分问题。本文作者避开来自传统的语法角度所产生的分歧，运用认知语言学中的图形／背景理论重新思考双重谓语。根据双重谓语的句式特点，将其分解为一个含有时间状语从句的复合句。“在时间事件结构中，较大的，在时间上可包含的事件作为背景；较小的，在时间上被包含的事件作为图形。”（Talmy,1978：640）并根据复合句中图形／背景的包含原则和附属原则及图形／背景的相关参数等方面，分析得出DP2是图形，DP₁是背景，然而在某些情况下，DP₁也可以做图形。作者总结得出：双重谓语=事件Ⅰ+事件Ⅱ，并指出了在认知语言学框架下分析双重谓语之于传统语法研究的优越性。作者对双重谓语的特殊句式进一步分析其认知动因。“句法成分的排列顺序映照它们所表达的实际状念或事件发生的先后顺序。”（沈家煊，1993）在认知过程中，表示动作性事件的DP₁优先感知，而表示性质、状态性事件的DP₂在次。此外，人类的认知过程遵循着已知—未知的信息传递原则，DP₂承载着比DP₁更丰富的信息，是信息的焦点，这也符合句末焦点原则。因此，顺序象似性和句末信息焦点原则共同作用，影响着双重谓语的句式结构。
