内容摘要

晚清时期,中国科学技术落后,社会动荡不安。在经历了第二次鸦片战争之后,中国兴起以统治阶级为代表,学习西方的自救运动。这一时期,大量的科技著作被译介引入到中国。直到中日甲午战争爆发,译介重心转向社科作品,科技著作翻译高潮暂告一个段落。这段持续了三十年左右的科技翻译活动产生并发展于探索救国方法的过程中,与社会和文化之间充满了碰撞、接受和妥协。由于规模庞大,领域广泛,本次科技翻译活动对中国科学技术的发展以及对中国知识体系的创新产生了重大作用。本文拟借用描写译学的研究方法,对晚清(1861-1894)科技翻译活动的起因、过程以及其对译入语社会和文化的影响进行研究。本文的理论基础框架是图里的描写翻译理论,主要从历时和共时的研究角度入手,在社会文化的语境下,关注翻译活动的动因、过程和影响。在具体的描述过程中还借用佐哈尔的多元系统理论,揭示晚清科技翻译活动发生的基本原因和直接原因,描述翻译活动的发展过程及其背后的社会文化因素,分析译作对中国社会的科学技术发展以及知识体系更新产生的影响。通过对晚清科技翻译的描写性研究,本文客观全面地展示了晚清科技翻译活动的全貌,同时也揭示了翻译活动的发生以及发展过程都深受社会文化的影响和制约,而翻译作品也对译入语社会和文化发展产生着重要的作用和影响。本文将晚清科技翻译置于更大的社会文化背景下,研究翻译活动及其社会文化因素之间的相互作用,试图为科技翻译史研究做一种新的尝试和探索,冀为以后相关研究提供一种视角。
