意象图式理论视角下的《围城》幽默英译研究

内容摘要

认知语言学是近三四十年来语言研究的一个新视角,认为人类的认知对语言有着深远的影响。意象图式理论是认知语言学的重要组成部分之一,以其对语言深度认知的研究,更是日益成为关注的焦点。根据意象图式的理论,人们不仅认识个别事物,而且对事物之间的关系也有认知,经过对这些关系反复的组织,便形成了意象图式,赋予了人们的经验以完整的结构。在各种文化的交流中,翻译的作用毋庸质疑。根据意象图式的理论,人类对世界的认识有个体差异,同时也有共同之处,因为对客观世界的普遍的认知经验使人们对事物形成了普遍的意象图式,这才有了翻译的可能性。因此,意象翻译便是翻译中很重要的方面。然而,不同语言、不同文化之间,某些意象意义一致,而某些意象却不尽相同：同一意象的表达方式可能存在差别,亦或同一表述所表达的意象却千差万别。因此,译者在进行意象翻译的时候,不能一概论之,需要具体情况具体处理。幽默可谓是语言的精粹,文化的载体,其包含的深度意象是理解幽默的关键。钱钟书的唯一长篇小说力作《围城》影响深远,其中的幽默更是脍炙人口,恰切辛辣。本文以钱钟书小说《围城》中的幽默表达方式以及Jeanne Kelly、Nathan K. Mao的英译本为例,通过对意象传递、意象转换和意象再造三个方面的分析,试图探讨意象图式理论在意象翻译过程中的解释功能,并讨论了对译者今后翻译工作的启示,即译者应以最大程度地传达原文意象为己任,不断加强自身双语、双文化修养与能力,综合各种因素,恰当传递意象,以更有效地促进跨文化交流。
