中国南北方大学生英语元音格局对比研究

内容摘要

国内外学者就外语学习的重要组成部分之一的元音习得进行了大量的研究。然而，针对不同母语方言背景对中国学生习得外语元音的影响的研究却很少。本研究对比了不同方言背景的中国学生所产生的英语元音格局，并将其与本族语者的英语元音格局进行了对比。该研究旨在探索中国南北方方言背景的英语学习者元音格局的特点和一般规律，同时检验二语习得的对比分析假说（CAH）和语言习得模型（SLM），在一定程度上明确不同的方言背景是如何影响中国外语学习者习得英语元音的。本文将具体探讨以下两个研究问题：1.来自北京和双峰的中国英语学习者的英语元音格局是怎样的？2.中国南北方英语学习者和英语本族语者的英语元音格局有何相似和差异之处？本研究的受试者是32名来自湖南大学的大二年级的学生。年龄在19到21岁之间。所有受试者根据其方言背景（北京方言和双峰方言）被分为两组，每组8位男生，8位女生。本研究使用的目标元音为/i/,/I/,//,//和//。实验材料是单词peak, deep, keep, did, pick, big, bed, get, beg, back, book, put，took。第一和第二共振峰的数据来自于1504个元音的实验数据。本研究主要有以下发现：一、北京和双峰方言背景的中国学生的英语元音格局与Ladefoged (2006)和Reetz,Jongman (2009)所提出的元音的一般趋势大体一致。根据舌位的前后关系以及高低，两方言组所产出的五个目标元音的英语元音格局大体相似，均为元音/i/,//和//在元音格局图的三个顶点位置。二、方言背景确实对中国大学生产出的英语元音格局有重大影响。通过将两方言组的英语元音格局和本族语者的进行对比，本研究发现北京方言组较好地产出了五个目标元音。与双峰方言组相比，北京方言组的受试者产出的五个目标元音更加接近于本族语者产出的元音格局。本语音研究还发现与非相似元音相比，相似元音的产出更加本土化，此研究结果支持了对比分析假设。本研究的发现在一定程度上有助于英语元音的有效教学及习得。
