目的论视角下《红楼梦》中文化缺省的翻译

内容摘要

在写作时,作者往往将自身与其意向读者所共有的文化背景知识进行省略,这种省略便是文化缺省。文化缺省可以提高作者和其意向读者之间的交际效率,给意向读者提供想象空间,增加作品的美学效果。但是译文的目标读者由于其文化背景的差异,不可能像原文的意向读者那样获得对文化缺省的连贯的理解。这样文化缺省就给翻译带来了困难。《红楼梦》是我国古典文学中一部不朽的杰作,无论是其思想内容还是艺术成就,都达到了中国古典小说的巅峰,是我国文学宝库中一颗璀璨的明珠。《红楼梦》中处处都折射着丰富多彩的中华民族的文化内涵。其博大精深的语言,作者的独具匠心,对世间百态的细致描绘都使得这部作品处处体现着极其深厚的中国传统文化的气息。《红楼梦》中所体现的中国传统文化不仅是中华民族的艺术瑰宝,同样也是成为世界文学之林的一株奇葩。因此《红楼梦》的翻译有助于中国文化的传播。然而《红楼梦》中文化缺省的翻译对于译者是一大挑战。以往对于《红楼梦》中文化缺省的翻译的研究往往是基于某种具体的翻译策略与方法来进行评论,所以得出的结论也是各不相同。本文将从目的论的视角来分析《红楼梦》中文化缺省的翻译。目的论是德国功能主义翻译理论的重要组成部分。目的论认为翻译的目的是是翻译活动中最重要的原则,翻译策略与方法都要由翻译的目的决定并且服务于翻译的目的。杨宪益夫妇的翻译目的是为了传播中国文化,因此多采用异化的翻译方法尽可能的保留原文中的中国文化。而霍克斯则是为了让译文读者得到阅读的快乐,所以多采用归化译法以使译文通顺流畅,便于读者接受。本文主要分为六章。第一章为引言,介绍了研究的起因,研究的目的和意义以及论文结构。第二章为文献综述,介绍了国内外目的论研究发展与现状以及翻译中文化缺省问题的研究状况。第三章对文化缺省进行分析,介绍了文化、语言与翻译的关系,文化缺省的定义与成因及其功能。第四章从德国功能主义翻译理论入手,具体阐述目的论。第五章从目的论视角对比分析《红楼梦》两个英译版本中文化缺省的翻译。第六章为结论部分。
