图式理论在大学英语阅读教学中的应用

内容摘要

图式(schema)的概念最早是由德国哲学家康德(Kant,1781)提出的。英国心理学家巴特利特( Bartlett,1923)应用并发展了图式理论。20世纪70年代美国的人工智能专家鲁梅尔哈特(Rumelhart)完善了该理论并指出:“图式理论基本上是一种关于人的知识的理论”。根据图式理论,阅读理解是读者头脑中的图式与文本信息的交互作用的过程,当读者将记忆中的图式与文本材料所提供的信息联系起来并使之相匹配时,就能理解语言材料的内容。阅读理解的图式可分为三种类型:语言图式(linguistic schema)形式图式(formal schema )及内容图式(content schema)。在过去的几十年里,阅读一直被认为是一个被动接受的过程。传统的大学英语阅读教学是以教师为中心的,大多数教师一直把语言图式的讲解作为教学的重点。学生被给予大量的练习来提高英语阅读水平。事实上大部分学生对这种阅读教学方法产生了厌烦和畏惧的心理。这种方法不仅耗时多,效果差,而且也不能适应当前的素质教育的要求。所以对这种传统的英语阅读教学法进行改革势在必行。本文着重强调了内容图式在英语教学中的作用,因为它对英语阅读发挥着举足轻重的作用,是影响英语阅读理解成功与否的一个重要因素。本文并强调教师在阅读教学过程中应当注重在课堂时间课外时间积极激活内容图式以达到提高英语阅读水平的目的。英语阅读教学在英语教学中处于首要地位,它担负着培养学生英语阅读能力的重要任务。本文以《大学英语综合教程》为教学案例,对赤峰学院大二两个班的四十八名英语专业的学生进行了一个学期的教学实验。作者把两个班随机得分成一个控制班,一个实验班。控制班采用了传统的阅读教学法,实验班采用图式理论指导下的阅读教学法。在前测时两个班的英语阅读水平相当,在经过一个学期的教学实验后,数据分析及实验结果表明:(1)采用图式理论指导下的阅读教学法比传统的阅读教学法效率更高,更受欢迎;(2)图式理论对英语教学起着积极的促进作用;(3)图式理论越清晰,学生就越能更好的理解文章。因此,本文认为在大学英语阅读教学中运用以图式理论指导下的阅读教学法能够增加学生的阅读兴趣,扩展学生的阅读视野,增强学生运用阅读策略的意识,培养学生良好的阅读习惯。
