从功能翻译理论视角看文学作品的复译

内容摘要


在文学翻译中,经典作品的复译现象极为普遍。同一部名著,往往有不同译者的译本相继问世并广为流传。我国以往有关复译的研究大多局限于对译本语言层面的静态考察,通过对不同译本进行比较,探讨哪个译本更忠实于原作。近年来,随着阐释学、接受美学被引入翻译研究,一些学者开始分别从文本阐释、读者等角度对文学作品的复译进行研究。这些理论拓展了翻译研究的视野,为文学作品复译提供了有力的理论支持。然而,运用以上单个理论并不能全面解释复译现象,因为文学作品的复译受到文本、读者、译者及社会文化背景等多方面因素的共同制约。将功能翻译理论运用到对文学作品复译的研究中,能够帮助我们更全面,更深刻地认识复译现象,并对其进行相对全面的分析。功能翻译理论认为,翻译是一种有目的的行为、一项跨语言、跨文化的交际活动。它重视译文功能的重现,强调翻译目的以及翻译行为的参与者(发起人、译者、译文读者)和翻译发生的环境条件在翻译过程中所起的作用,也关注原文本的分析。因此,功能翻译理论是一个以翻译目的为总则,把原文、译者、译文读者、社会文化环境都纳入其研究范畴的理论。运用功能翻译理论对文学作品的复译进行研究,有助于综合考查复译现象产生过程中各种因素所发挥的作用,从而为复译研究提供一个动态的、全方位的视角。本文试图以功能翻译理论为依据,以张谷若和孙法理的《德伯家的苔丝》两个中译本为例,从原文本、译者、读者、文化等几个方面对文学作品复译必要性进行分析和研究。本论文研究的目的不在于评议译本孰优孰劣,而是在着重分析其差异的基础上,尝试阐发复译现象存在的理论依据以及复译的必要性和意义。作者通过研究发现,由于文本理解的多样性、译者的不同翻译目、目标读者的不同期待、以及变化的社会文化环境下产生不同的翻译标准,这些因素的共同作用使得复译不仅必要而且可行。把功能翻译理论应用于翻译研究的另一价值还在于,为我们全面客观地评价不同的译本提供了指南。
