从认知角度探讨顺句驱动策略下的翻译单位

内容摘要

顺句驱动是同声传译实践中最常用也最受重视的转换策略和技巧,是同声传译的最大特点。人类语言‘的相似性与形式差异性的统一给顺句驱动这种产生于同声传译的翻译方式的出现和应用提供了理论上的可能性和必要性。同时其产生也是源于人类认知资源的有限性这个现实条件,以及同声传译的即时性这个现实需求。然而长期以来,顺句驱动或者顺译仅仅被认为是一种翻译技巧或策略,远远没有上升到理论高度,没有形成自己完整的理论体系。而其理论体系的构建就首先面临翻译单位的问题。遗憾的是,翻译单位的概念在传统翻译理论中一直没有明确、统一的表述,顺句驱动的翻译单位在理论界更是鲜有提及。由于翻译是以人为主体的复杂的认知过程,因此对翻译单位的研究如果仅仅局限在对翻译结果的研究是不能反映其实质的。而顺句驱动的线性的特点,使得修改和润色都不可能实现。这客观上使对译者认知过程的研究成为可能。同传是一个复杂的认知过程,而人的认知机制也包含很多不同的结构,包括感觉存储,工作记忆,编码系统等等,这就使翻译过程中会同时出现不同的处理单位。因此从信息处理的角度来看,顺句驱动策略下的翻译单位不是一个简单的可以衡量大小的单位,而是一个层次化,系统化的概念。其中包含了识别单位,参考单位,重组单位和呈现单位。这些构成单位之间相互联系相互影响构成了一个有机的层次化系统并影响着翻译效果。这种层次化的系统概念可以在实例中得到进一步的解释和验证。
