英语新词的隐喻构词研究

内容摘要

随着英语语言的发展和演化,反映新事物的词汇和表达手法层出不穷。术语‘新词’指的就是新创造的词语或表达方式,或是在原有的意思上衍生新意的词。有关新词研究的书籍和文章很多,然而,大部分的研究重点是针对表层的新词构词规则和结构,抑或单纯罗列存在于不同语义场的大量新词,抑或揭露新词的来源。以往对新词的研究忽视了隐含在简单构词规则背后的心理思维模式。与以往研究不同的是,本文将着重讨论更深层次的英语新词构成和理解的思维基础,即隐喻思维模式。在本文作者看来：1.隐喻构词方式是英语新词的一种重要构词方式。2.隐喻思维是隐藏在绝大部分英语新词背后并影响其构词和理解的思维机制。莱考夫的概念隐喻理论给我们提供了一个语言研究的新视角。许多语言学家和学者已经致力研究于此,并已经在此理论上作了重要贡献。本文作者试图探索隐喻理论的应用,而此理论能更好的解释英语新词的一些相关问题。已有的词汇是怎样获得新义的?它们是如何通过隐喻思维扩展意义的?隐喻的语义理据是否比我们认知到的它更重要呢?在本论文中,作者将说明隐喻思维模式和英语新词构成之间的关系以及新义与原义之问的关系；探索究竟隐喻机制如何维系并决定着英语新词的构成；并揭露这个机制对于英语新词的重要作用。具体来说,本文作者持有以下观点：隐喻的思维方式是语言的创新和变异的原动力,导致新词的产生,而且在表面的构词规则如旧词添义、转化、合成、混合、词缀法等背后正是隐喻机制在起作用。通过我们脑海中的隐喻联想,我们创造并转化意义使得旧词产生了新义。隐喻的构词方式实际上是两种概念的整合,这种整合是英语新词产生的基本方式之一。
