大学非英语专业二年级学生词汇学习策略使用调查

词汇一直被视为外语学习中必不可少的元素;如果学习者没有足够的词汇,就会发现在学习与交流中困难重重。在过去的几十年间,为了帮助学习者更有效地学习词汇,不少专家开始研究词汇学习策略。他们虽然得出很有深度的发现,但是结果却往往不一致。Stern提出“未来的研究应该在不同的社会环境,不同的学习环境,不同的年龄和成熟阶段,还有不同的学习水平中展开。”本文调查了182名非英语专业的大学生的词汇策略使用情况,他们是来自江西师范大学的11个学院的二年级的学生。本研究采用了定性和定量研究方法收集数据。一方面,为了解被试词汇学习水平和词汇学习策略的使用情况,本研究采用了Gu & Johnson (1996)的词汇策略调查问卷和Nation 3000词汇量测试作为测量。在统计软件“SPSS 17.0”的帮助下,描述性分析,“T”检验和相关度被用来分析所得的相应数据。另一方面,为了了解学习者更多的词汇学习状况,本研究对八名同学做了半结构化的采访,用于支持定量数据。通过调查,本研究得出以下结果:(1)被测使用各词汇策略的频率基本相同,处于中等水平。他们最常用的策略是上下文猜测策略,用得最少的策略是试用策略。这个数据与八位被访者所阐述的现实情况一样,他们表明最常用的是猜测策略。(2)高低组的对比表明,高分组同学比低分组同学词汇测试得分更高;高分组同学比低分组同学所使用的认知策略范围更广,频率更高。(3)女同学的词汇测试成绩比男性高;然而我们发现,女同学使用认知策略的频率只比男同学高一些。(4)通过探讨词汇学习策略与词汇学习水平的关系,本研究发现,在元认知策略当中的主动学习和选择性学习与词汇测试成绩成正比,相关度分别为0.05和0.001。而在认知策略当中,除了上下文猜测策略之外,其他策略都与词汇测试成绩成正相关。总之,本研究不仅使我们全面了解到非英语专业学习者词汇学习策略使用情况,还为英语词汇习得和词汇教学提供了一些有价值的涵义。首先,对于语言学习者来说,他们应该意识到元认知策略和认知策略的综合使用使得词汇学习更加的合理化;他们应该根据个人的英语水平和性别角色来挑选适合自己的词汇学习策略。第二,对于教师来说,他们应该为学生创造更多的机会来实践各种不同的词汇学习策略,使得每个学习者成为词汇学习能手,教师还应该记住学生之间的差异,相应地教授不同的词汇学习策略。
