对中国人和英语国家人士英文求职信的对比研究

内容摘要

作为语篇分析的方法之一,体裁分析(genre analysis)的宗旨是基于体裁的交际目的来识别宏观语步及其实现语步的策略和语言特征。它超越了对语篇语言表面特征的简单描述,力求从深层解释语篇。作为书面交际形式的求职信也属于体裁分析的研究范畴,但目前国内从体裁角度来探讨中国人所写的英文求职信的研究,尤其是对中国人和英语国家人士所写英文求职信的对比研究可谓凤毛麟角。鉴于此,本文选取了四十封中国人写的英文求职信作为分析样本,从体裁的角度进行探讨,以实现帮助中国英语学习者提高对求职信实际运用的目的。本研究采用了定性、定量分析结合的研究方法。从体裁的角度对四十封中国人写的英文求职信进行具体的语步(move)、策略(strategy)和语言特征(linguistic feature)的分析,并将分析结果与Henry & Roseberry (2001)关于四十篇以英语为本族语的求职者的英文求职信研究结果进行比较,找出并探讨两组信件存在的显著差异,以及解释出现这些差异的原因。研究发现,两组信件在语步(move)、策略(strategy)及语言特征(linguistic feature)三个方面均有差异。第一,在语步上,中国人写的英文求职信包含有15个语步而Henry & Roseberry (2001)的是11个,且两者在相应语步的名称或定义上也稍有不同。第二,在策略的运用上,两者也存在差异。例如,在用到促销语步时,中国求职者特别提到“赞颂(Adversary-glorification)应聘单位”和“称赞自己(Self-glorification)”两个策略等。第三,在语言层面上,因受汉式思维的影响,中国作者在英语语言能力上表现出了不足之处,即中国求职者在用英语来实现特定的交际目的时,不知道如何选用英语国家人士的首选表达方式。基于以上研究结果,作者希望此研究能对该体裁的写作教学提供一些帮助,并进一步揭示了其对专门用途英语教学以及跨文化交际的启示。本文认为,在进行该体裁的教学与学习时,应该就对比分析中暴露出来的差异性予以足够的重视,因为这些差异之处很可能就是求职者写求职信时最容易出现问题的地方。总之,作者认为本文的研究、分析方法能对更有效的英语教和学提供更多的信息。
