中国大学生英语议论文写作中的篇章连贯研究

本研究旨在探讨中国大学生英语议论文写作中存在的篇章连贯问题。研究运用程晓堂(2005)提出的篇章连贯理论来分析大学生的议论文,研究他们的作文中存在的篇章连贯错误。与此同时,作者设计了一份调查问卷来检验学生在写作过程中是否注意篇章的连贯。研究中的被试是来自于中国石油大学(华东)四个不同专业的60名大二学生,研究主要有两个步骤:首先在课堂上对这60名学生进行问卷调查;然后要求他们在30分钟以内完成一篇题为“大学校园是否应该对游人开放?”的英语议论文,字数不得少于120个单词。在这之后,作者统计了调查问卷的结果,并运用程晓堂(2005)提出的篇章连贯理论从主位结构、信息结构、命题宏观结构和语类宏观结构这四个方面对被试作文的篇章连贯情况进行了探讨。最后,将问卷调查的结果与学生的作文情况进行比较分析,如果两个结果能相符合,这将对我们今后的英语写作教学产生有益的启示。研究结果有两个方面。第一方面,问卷调查的结果表明大学生在写作过程中并未十分注意篇章的连贯,学生们普遍缺乏篇章连贯知识。第二方面是描述性结果,研究利用从学生作文中找到的实例,说明并讨论了中国大学生议论文写作中所存在的各类篇章连贯问题。当中包括:各种不恰当的主位选择和主导主位应用;各种不恰当的信息分布;各种微观命题无法有效支持宏观命题的情况;以及各种语类宏观结构成分的缺失。本研究的分析结果表明,中国大学生对篇章连贯了解甚少,由于缺乏篇章连贯知识,他们在英语议论文的写作过程中无法保持篇章的连贯性。尽管英语教师在写作教学的过程中讲授了一些篇章连贯知识,学生在写作时仍然很少注意篇章的连贯。本研究对教学的意义在于它能够帮助学生以及教师认识到掌握篇章连贯知识(即主位结构、信息结构、命题宏观结构和语类宏观结构)对提高学生英语写作水平的重要性,无论是学生还是英语教师都应该增强对篇章连贯的敏感性,英语教师在课堂上应加强篇章连贯知识的讲授。
