概念合成与英语中的复合名词

概念合成理论可用来分析许多语言和非语言现象,也有学者用此理论分析英语中的复合名词。但是这种分析多集中在单一的层面:句法、语义或认知,且大都采用定性分析的方式。复合名词是一种复杂的语言现象,单一的分析方法难以揭示其结合过程。基于以往的研究,本文利用概念合成理论分析复合名词,以揭示其内在的认知理掘,在分析中引入复合名词的句法和语义特点。本文首先采用了定量的方法,收集了《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》(第六版)中的复合名词,而且复合名词的第一个词是核心词汇表(附于该词典)中的词汇,大约5566个,其中2871个为n+n型复合名词。然后将复合名词分成偏正式(subordinative)、修饰式(attributive)和并列式(coordinative),并且进一步将每种类型分为向心型(endocentric)和离心型(exocentric),然后用概念合成理论对每种类型进行分析。可以得出结论:偏正式复合名词和修饰式复合名词存有单一网络(simplex network);并列式复合名词分为两种情况,向心型的属于镜像网络(mirror network),离心型的属于双向网络(double-scopenetwork)。这样就从概念合成的角度阐释了复合名词的认知理据,并且从统计角度揭示了每种情况的可能性。此外,针对占多数的n+n型复合名词,揭示了其组成成分间的15种语义关系。对于常见的v+adv型复合名词,找出了其内在的述词-论元结构(predicate-argumentstructure),揭示了其语义特点。这样,从一定程度揭示了英语复合名词复杂的认知理据。
