外语水平与阅读中所学单词的联想模式的关系

在二语习得的研究领域中,很多研究证实了外语水平和进一步的语言学习之间存在着互惠的关系,即外语水平更高的学习者在相同的学习任务中能获得更多的语言知识,反过来,这又更有效地促进了其外语水平的提高。在词汇联想的研究中,研究者发现外语水平不同的学习者在对他们所熟悉的单词进行词汇联想时,所给出的模式是不一样的,这就表明他们的心理词汇的结构是不一样的。本研究意在探索不同外语水平的学习者在对阅读过程中所学到的新单词是否会给出不同的联想模式。联想模式是由聚合关系、组合关系以及音位相近的联想比例决定的。本研究中的受试是来自西南大学的100名学生,他们包括51名对外汉语专业大一的学生,35名英语专业大三的学生,以及14名学习英美文学,语言学或应用语言学三年级的研究生。实验包括四个部分：(1)作为外语水平测试的C-test,(2)词汇知识量表(VKS)用来判断学习部分所用的目标单词受试是否已经熟悉(只有此阶段被判定为不熟悉的单词才会用于最后的分析),(3)一篇阅读文章以及十个目标单词的英文定义和中文翻译,(4)词汇联想测试。实验结果显示外语水平对词汇联想模式并没有产生影响。但进一步的分析仍然认为外语水平更高的学习者更倾向于通过语义进行联想。该结果从四个方面进行了解释：(1)实验实施中存在的缺陷有可能对数据造成了很大影响；(2)该研究仍然和以往的一些实证研究结果相吻合；(3)词汇的发展并不受外语水平的影响,而是遵循着同样的发展路线,比如Jiang (2000)提出的词汇发展模型；(4)现有的对词汇联想的分类并不能将外语水平高的学习者和外语水平低的学习者区分开来。因此,今后的研究需要结合语义学和心理语言学的理论对词汇联想进行新的分类。词汇联想的方法也对外语的教与学有一定的启示。
