内容摘要

林语堂在历史上是一名颇具争议的作家,同时也是一名多产的翻译家,然而由于历史原因,林语堂研究在中国大陆一直未引起足够的重视,对其翻译活动及翻译作品的研究更是少之又少。本文以翻译家林语堂为研究对象,以勒夫维尔的改写理论为分析框架,对林语堂20世纪30年代的翻译活动和翻译作品进行了考察和研究,从而帮助读者更好地理解林语堂30年代翻译活动变化背后的深层次因素,以期为林语堂的翻译研究添砖加瓦。20世纪30年代,林语堂的思想文化观念,文学创作以及政治立场发生了巨大的转变,并被左翼作家斥为落后与保守。其不同的翻译类型在这一时期都有所展现,包括了翻译(有明确的文本)、自译(auto-translation)和编译(editing)等。本文根据其翻译作品的内容及主题,将林语堂30年代(1928-1937)的翻译活动分成三个阶段,并采用描述-解释的方法,从意识形态、诗学和赞助人的角度,分析了林语堂三个阶段翻译文本选择的特点及原因,从归化、异化的角度,通过对典型例子的分析,对三个阶段的翻译策略进行了探讨。通过对林语堂30年代翻译活动的个案分析,本文认为个人主义与表现主义,幽默与闲适,以及性灵文学是林语堂30年代翻译活动三个不同的主题,但却是一脉相承的,是林语堂一生所坚守的文学理念。
