优选论及其在翻译研究中的解释力

内容摘要

跨学科移植在现代科学发展中发挥着重要作用，也为翻译研究提供了新视角。60年代以来，国外一些翻译研究人员不断尝试将相关学科引入翻译研究，从不同的视角对翻译实践进行观察、总结和原则性阐述。翻译涉及两种语言的转换，自然最直接的相关学科应该是语言学(李运兴，2000：301)。于是便出现了以翻译研究为受体，以相关语言学学科的某些观点为供体的跨学科移植(ibid．)。优选论(Optimality Theory)自90年代初由音系学家Alan Prince和认知科学家Paul Smolensky提出以来发展迅速，影响巨大，其理论原则和分析方法已应用于语言研究的许多其他领域(Rene Kager，2001：3)。例如，英国Sheffield大学的Richard Mansell教授已经将优选论应用到诗歌翻译研究中。更重要的是优选论为语言分析提供了一个新的视角，为人类语言的研究开辟了一个新的途径(李兵，1998：2)。本文从介绍优选论的基本原理入手，阐释优选论移植到翻译研究的可能性、必要性和指导性，进而构建“优选翻译理论”以分析翻译现象，研究翻译理论，认识翻译本质，指导翻译实践。本文结构大致如下：引言部分概述跨学科移植的基本情况；第一章简要阐述优选论的发展历史及理论原则；第二章论述优选论移植到翻译研究中的可能性、必要性和指导性，进而构建一种新的翻译理论：优选翻译理论；第三章阐释优选翻译理论在翻译实践中(翻译中的最优措词、句子和篇章的生成)的解释力；第四章作者结合大量的实例和图表进一步探讨优选翻译理论在翻译质量评估(文学翻译和非文学翻译研究)中的应用；第五章对优选论在翻译研究中的跨学科移植、在翻译实践和翻译质量评估中的应用进行了辨证分析，在肯定其优势的同时指出不足；后记部分认为优选翻译理论有助于翻译研究和优选论本身的发展，但要进一步完善该理论，还需要更加深入的研究和分析。
