约翰·杜威之美国民主与自由主义政治思想的分析

内容摘要

约翰·杜威被誉为美国伟大的哲学家和教育改良者,其思想在教育和社会改革方面影响甚广。本文聚焦杜威的民主和自由主义思想,试图通过分析其最具代表的两本政治著作《公共及其问题》(1927)以及《自由主义与社会行为》(1935)来探索杜威的自由民主政治思想以及二者的关系。对于民主,杜威首先明确一战后美国民主制度遇到的危机,即人们对公共参与信心的缺失。杜威倡导参议制民主,公众需要更多地参与社会和政治事务中。对于自由主义的问题在于自由价值的危机。杜威主要是批判他所处时代的放任资本的自由主义。为了应对该自由危机,杜威重申他对自由主义的追求,那就是实现自由、个性以及智慧的价值。本文最终得出的结论是杜威的政治专著为政治哲学家如何分析问题解决问题树立了积极的榜样。杜威最鲜明的创新之处在于消解传统的民主和自由主义的对立关系,明确了自由民主的真正意义。
