内容摘要

作为世界三大短篇小说家之一,欧·亨利与契诃夫、莫泊桑齐名。他的小说历来是批评家们评论的焦点。在诸多对欧·亨利作品的评论中,目前尚未有专著或论文从文化分析的角度阐述欧·亨利的作品。前人只是就其作品本身进行文本分析,如写作技巧、结构安排、情节人物等等,而忽略了文学作品反映出地当时美国社会的文化特点。生活在19世纪末20世纪初的欧·亨利,被誉为美国社会的一面镜子,他的作品真实地折射出了处于转折时期的美国文化。爱情短篇小说,作为欧·亨利短篇小说的一个重要类型,有着重要的研究意义。本文运用新历史主义和文化唯物主义理论,对欧·亨利的爱情短篇小说进行文化分析,探讨19世纪末20世纪初这个特殊时期人们不同的爱情观,并从中发掘出隐藏在小说背后的美国文化特点。
